Career Aspiration

Marketing allows business industry professionals to creatively bring new products to consumers. Marketers make an “average base salary of $67,948 per year or $34.85 per hour. Entry level positions start at $30,000 per year while most experienced workers make up to $115,51” (neuvoo, 2020). Marketers who are a jack of all trades have the best job security (Rolph, 2019).
When marketers apply for jobs, they need to make sure that it is in the correct level of experience, have a clear idea of the type of role they would like to have, and not faking their way through the interview process (Hyam, 2020). Marketers can maintain a proper work/life balance by being self-aware, understanding their priorities, enjoying personal time, unplugging from technology, establishing cl
ear boundaries, being productive and accountable, and understanding where they are in their career (Rossum & Rossum, 2018). Where you work has just a big of an impact in marketing as it does in every field. Marketing companies that offer flexible hours have better results as a company as they attract more talent, save on o
perating costs, have better engagement and productivity from employees, and have a better employ retention (Ritcey, 2019). Marketing is a great field to get into.

I am so happy to be studying a field that allows me to express my creativity and uses it to bring new products to consumers. The steps I am taking to work towards my career are to gradate from Durham College in Spring 2021 with as close to or above a 4.0 GPA, attending the Ontario Colleges Marketing Competition, proving that I can work in groups and alone, and learning the skills and knowledge of the marketing trade.

In my career as a marketer, it is my dream to work for a publishing company that produces books. I want to help writers market their material and help come up with the designs for the covers to help attract consumers. I would like to make it to the position of Marketing Coordinator, which to achieve this position, I will need a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Marketing (Monster.com, 2019), so I will need to continue my education for that. A marketing coordinator’s base salary is approximately $46,000 (Glassdoor.ca, 2020). While this is on the lower range of salaries for marketers, I am confident that with proper education, experience, and levels of time, I will be able to make a much higher salary. As a Marketing Coordinator, job security is high due to it being an upper level position. The expertise needed for a

Marketing Coordinator is a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Marketing, tracking sales data and turning it into reports, supporting sales staff, comparing analyst reports and data, researching and evaluating competitive products, and summarizing sales data (Monster.com, 2019). As a Marketing Coordinator, I plan to have steady 60 hour work weeks, so that I can maintain a proper balance between family and home, as I have a daughter and husband who I love to spend time with. My workplace venue will be a publishing company, such as Harlequin Trade Publishing at Harlequin Enterprises ULC. I hope to achieve these goals by 2035.
